Myths and Facts about Lice

- Myth: Only an unhygienic person can get head lice.
Fact: Anybody can get infected with lice. Anybody! A louse doesn’t care if a person is hygienic or unhygienic, it only wants to live like a parasite in your head. So, even you maintain personal hygiene, chances are you might get infected by head lice too.
- Myth: Lice can fly
Fact: Absolutely not - head lice cannot fly or jump.They can only infect other person’s head if that person comes in head-to-head contact with the person who already has head lice. So, no, head lice won’t jump onto your head.
- Myth: Head Lice can cause illness
Fact: We know that head lice cause profuse itching of the scalp and you get red bumps sometimes but that’s it. As much of a nuisance head lice are, thankfully for us, they don’t spread illness or transmit diseases.
- Myth: Length of the hair matters to the lice
Fact: By now we know that the only thing that matters to the louse is its survival. So if you think your hair length is going to matter to the lice, you are completely wrong. A louse doesn’t care if the host’s hair is long or short etc.; it will thrive anywhere long as it gets to feed on the blood.
- Myth: The whole family needs to take the treatment
Fact: If one of your family members has lice infestation, it is obvious that you will all want to get checked by professional inspection. But treatment? Only the person infected should get the treatment. There is no need to get treatment for no reason.
